With summer temperatures soaring above 40 C° in the Syrian Arab Republic’s northeastern desert, over 70,000 people, including nearly 49,000 children living in Al-Hol Camp have no escape from the relentless heat. To survive, families are having to spend the long daylight hours stuck in their shelters. Some of them are cutting slits through their tents in desperate attempts to cool them. After fleeing violence in Deir-ez-Zor during the winter and leaving everything behind, most of the camp families did not bring summer clothes and do not have the means to purchase new ones for their children. Many people walk around barefoot on the searing ground. To help them cope, and thanks to a generous contribution from the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DFID), UNICEF started distributing 45,000 summer clothing kits to children aged 0 to 14 years-old in Al-Hol Camp. Kits contain shirts, T-shirts, trousers, sport shoes, socks, summer caps, and undergarments, in addition to bodysuits and outwear overalls for babies. 8BIM 37 3 Adobe d !1AQ"aq2B#Rr%3b$5CScs !1"2ABQRaqr3b ?
